Largest haunted house in Northern Michigan attracts over 1,000 visitors opening weekend
KALKASKA — The screams started Friday night, heard across a field on M-66, marking the beginning of Screams in the Dark’s fourth season at its permanent Kalkaska location. With 60 scare actors, 43 acres, multiple haunted structures and a trail, it is the largest haunted attraction in Northern Michigan.
Owner and founder Joe Ritchie said that this year’s opening weekend was larger than last year’s, with more than 1,000 visitors attempting the experience. Since acquiring the property in Kalkaska, the attraction has been growing year after year.
