Jack M. Findlay

Jack M. Findlay, 83, of Alden, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. Jack was born on April 21, 1943, in East Grand Rapids to the late Theodore and Marie Findlay. Jack is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Patricia Findlay, whom he affectionately called “The Empress”; his two stepdaughters, Becci (Mark) Davis and Beth (Roy) Cole; his beloved grandchildren, Brittany (Casey) Ray, Brady Cole, and Connor Cole; and his loving sister, Jill Findlay. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews, along with countless friends whom he considered family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ted. 

At a young age, Jack entered the seminary at St. Joe’s, much to the surprise of his friends and family. From there, he continued his undergraduate studies at St. Mary’s and eventually completed his studies at St. John’s in Plymouth, where he was ordained as a priest.

Following his time in the priesthood and his marriage to Patti, Jack found great success in business, working with Xerox and BI. His accomplishments allowed him the freedom of early retirement, something he enjoyed to the fullest. Jack was a man who valued education, and his intelligence was matched only by his sense of humor and his remarkable ability to bring people together. Jack loved a good glass of red wine surrounded by family and friends, and had many passions, including film reviews with his granddaughter, golf with his grandsons, basketball, good food, literature, and learning. He was fond of quoting Latin phrases, always with great authority and rarely with anyone around him knowing what they actually meant.

After retirement, Jack and Patti made Alden their full-time home, where they fostered many treasured friendships. Jack was deeply involved with the Alden Volunteers, at one point serving as president. He was instrumental in many of the town’s projects, including his personal favorite, the Veteran’s Memorial. 

Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His humor, generosity, intelligence, and warmth brought joy to everyone around him. The memories he created with his family and friends will be cherished and live on forever.
