Memorial Day Tribute

Alden 

There will be a Patriotic Memorial Day Parade at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 29 in downtown Alden Veterans’ Memorial at the Alden Historical Depot Park & Museum, followed by a Remembrance Ceremony at the Helena Township Cemetery. Everyone is encouraged to attend and salute the heroes.

 

Bellaire

A Memorial Day Parade, will begin Monday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bellaire Methodist Church, then, led by the Bellaire High School Band, march to the Village Hall where it will pause for a Memorial Day tribute, prayers and the playing of Taps. The parade will then continue on Bridge St. and end at the Bellaire Hardware. Following the parade, all are invited to travel the short distance to the Veterans Memorial located at the ASI Community Center and Park for a brief ceremony of remembrance. Light refreshments will be served by the ASI Board of Directors.

 

Central Lake 

Central Lake AmVets Post 6986 will hold a Memorial Day Service at Southern Cemetery, at 10:00 a.m. on May 29.

 

Ellsworth & Norwood 

The Village of Norwood is hosting its 76th Memorial Day Commemoration. Ellsworth’s American Legion Post 488 along with members of the Kooyer Family will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at Norwood Lakeside Cemetery, as they have every year since 1946. The observance begins at 8:45 a.m. in Norwood Cemetery,with music, a message, wreath laying, a rifle volley and the playing of Taps. Other ceremonies will be in Atwood at 10:00 a.m., Ellsworth at 11:00 a.m., and the wreath laying will be at noon on Ellsworth Lake. Immediately following the ceremony, an open house will be hosted by the Norwood Area Historical Society at the Historic Schoolhouse in the village.

 

Fife Lake 

There will be a Chamber Pancake Breakfast Meet and Greet on Sunday, May 28. It will take place at the American Legion Post 219, in Fife Lake from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

 

Kalkaska 

The Kalkaska American Legion Post 480 will be participating in the following events on Memorial Day weekend:

Sunday, May 28, 2023:

• 12:30 p.m. - St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery on M-72 at Barker Creek: Prayer service, rifle volley and Taps.

 Monday, May 29, 2023:

• 10:00 a.m. - Senior Haven, 2180 N. Birch Street, Kalkaska: Flag Raising, rifle volley and Taps

• 11:00 a.m. - Veterans Memorial in downtown Kalkaska: Flag Raising, rifle volley and Taps

• 12:00 p.m. - Evergreen Cemetery – at the Veterans Memorial: Flag Raising, reading of names, tolling of bell, wreath laying, rifle volley and Taps. 

• Maple Grove Cemetery: Kalkaska, (Wood Road west of US-131) following the Ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery- rifle volley and Taps.

 

Mancelona 

The American Legion George Puckett Post #264 will lead the Memorial Day Parade through Mancelona on Monday, May 29. The parade will begin downtown at 9 a.m. Local veterans, scouts and the Mancelona High School Marching Band will participate. The parade will stop at Mancelona Township Library downtown, Fairview Cemetery (northwest side of cemetery, straight across from Tri-Gas) and St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery on West Limits Road for services.
