KALKASKA —The Village of Kalkaska has withdrawn its application with the State Boundary Commission (SBC) to petition for city status.

The Kalkaska Village board voted on the item as a last minute addition to their scheduled public hearing to discuss the 2022-23 budget on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The motion to stop the process was passed unanimously by the board members present. Trustee Bobby Bishop was absent from the meeting.

Stopping the village to city process was not a topic that appeared on the special meeting agenda posted to the Village website for several days prior to the meeting. The item was added to the hard copy of the agenda provided to board members at the meeting.

At the time of publication, no response was received explaining the abrupt end to the pursuit of city status from the Kalkaska Villager Manager or President.
