KALKASKA – After several recent resignations, including the announcement that its director would not be seeking a new contract, the Kalkaska Village Downtown Development Authority will soon be getting an infusion of new blood and ideas.

Cash Cook, the DDA’s executive director, and two authority board members – Bruce Zenner II and Patty Coffey – all announced they would be resigning within the last month.

The DDA board voted to accept Cook’s resignation at its Sept. 11 meeting, after he reportedly informed board members his contract was set to expire and he would not be seeking an extension. The effective date of his resignation is Dec. 10.

But, Cook wasn’t alone. The board also voted to accept Zenner’s resignation at the Sept. 11 meeting.

“It is with regret that I’m writing to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of this board, effective immediately,” Zenner stated in a letter submitted to the DDA board. “My other commitments have become too great for me to be able to fulfill the requirements of my position on the board and I feel it is best for me to make room for someone with the time and energy to devote to the position.

“It has been a pleasure being a part of the DDA board,” he added. “I am so proud of all we have accomplished in the past five-plus years and I have no doubt the board will continue these successes in the future.”

That followed the resignation of DDA board member Patty Coffey, who quit her position on the board Aug. 21. It also followed a heated special meeting that same day, at which the board was considering whether to remove board member Bob Burgin for alleged malfeasance.

According to minutes of the meeting, Burgin claimed Coffey was attacking him.
