Township to consider alternatives to closing of waste receiving station
CENTRAL LAKE — Pressured by a room full of angry, hostile residents, during its regular monthly meeting of Wednesday, Aug. 18, the Central Lake Township Board of Trustees agreed to consider alternatives to closing the township's waste receiving station.
In July, the board had made the decision to close the waste receiving station it has operated for many years, citing a lack of manpower, aging equipment, and rising costs of operating the facility.
Many of the residents attending the meeting questioned the township's operation of the receiving station over the years, with some suggesting that the township had not done needed maintenance and repairs over the years, while others, such as Central Lake Village Council President Rob Tyler, questioned the township's general fund balance of $610,000 during the public comment period that lasted almost an hour.
