The event hosted by the Bear Lake Township Firefighters Association netted nearly $6,000 with a record 308 dinners being sold.
BEAR LAKE TWP. – Maybe it was the big pieces of chicken smothered with barbeque sauce. Or, the kids games, train ride and bounce house. Or, maybe just a chance to sit down with your neighbors one last time before the fall season begins.
No matter the reason, the Bear lake Township Fire Department’s annual Chicken Barbeque has been a huge success in helping raise additional funds for Station No. 8. And, this year, the 40th anniversary of the local fundraiser, was no different.
In fact, local residents and visitors turned out in droves at the Bear Lake Township Community Center on M-72, helping to set a new record with 308 dinners being sold on Sunday, Sept. 2. That topped the previous record by six meals.
“It's a good cause for our locals to support,” said Salena Laskowski, president of the Bear Lake Township Firefighters Association, which hosts the event. “Small towns have big hearts.
“(And) I think the kids games, train ride and bounce houses makes it a great family event. The food – it’s very good – and with all the raffle packages that our local businesses donate helps to bring the people in the doors.”
