A toast to life: Local volunteer hopes his memoir will inspire others
ALDEN – What started more than two decades ago as a Christmas present for his twin newborn grandsons has evolved and grown into much more than a one-time gift for Alden resident Jack Findlay.
And while that gift is finally complete, Findley hopes its message will resonate and serve to inspire others.
“I guess you could say it was born in 1995, essentially completed in 2014 and after extensive review and editing, it is now a reality,” said Findlay.
That reality has resulted in “UnCollared: Confessions of a Nonconformist, a Memoir,” published about six weeks ago by Chapbook Press in Grand Rapids.
Findlay will discuss his book during a free gathering at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at the Alden District Library, located in the Helena Township Community Center at 8751 Helena Road. The book will be available for purchase at the event, and he is donating all proceeds to the library.
“It started out as a journal for my grandsons, Brady and Connor,” said Findlay, “and expanded from there. I wanted them to see my successes, failures and the life lessons that I learned.”
