BELLAIRE — A Hillsdale man accused of causing a long standoff with law enforcement in Mancelona was arraigned on several felony charges in Antrim County's 86th District Court in Bellaire Tuesday morning.

Arraigned via video by 86th District Court Magistrate Jessica Allmand, 42-year-old Kip Miller pled not guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of fourth-degree fleeing/eluding an officer following an incident that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 27 in Petoskey and on U.S. 131 south of the village of Mancelona.

Pulled over at a gas station in Petoskey early Thursday morning after law enforcement received reports of an earlier road rage incident with a motorist, Miller allegedly threw hot coffee in patrol officer Brock Kimball's face after being stopped by the officer from leaving the scene, then sped south on U.S. 131 in his Ford F-150 with four children in the backseat of the pickup truck.

Local law enforcement briefly gave chase but pulled back when troopers from the Michigan State Police got involved. The MSP followed Miller's vehicle at a distance through Charlevoix County, keeping 911 dispatchers informed of the vehicle's progress.
