Student enrollment at KPS continues to decline

KALKASKA — Kalkaska Public Schools might be suffering a side-effect of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as enrollment in the local school district continues to decline.
According to enrollment statistics released by KPS officials, the school district’s student count for the current 2020-21 school year dropped from 1,390 in October to 1,367 during the second count earlier this month.
The good news for KPS might be that most districts in Michigan are also reporting similar trends.
“Everyone is reporting a decline in enrollment,” said KPS Superintendent Terry Starr.
