Station 7 preps to host annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Picnic
KALKASKA – Rather than sprinting out to tackle another fire or other emergency, the crew of Kalkaska Township Fire Department Station No. 7 will be staying at its firehouse on Saturday, Aug. 25, to host its annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Picnic and 5K run.
The picnic, from noon to 4 p.m., is a multifaceted event, allowing the community to visit the station house on Laurel Street, an annual time to remember those who have served their community with a short memorial ceremony at 2 p.m. and to help raise funds in support of the local department.
“I hope people are able to find time to stop by and meet us.” said Station No. 7 Fire Chief Derek Hogerheide. “Come see the station and the equipment they (as supporters and taxpayers) own.
“Also, we want to show everyone what we do with the money they donate to us, as in the equipment we've purchased and donated to the fire department,” he added. “And, most importantly, to pay tribute to our fallen firefighters.”
