CLEARWATER TWP. — Kalkaska County Sheriff Department officials are reporting that speed may have been a factor in a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of two Rapid City teens on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 4.

According to a prepared statement released by the KCSD, the single-vehicle accident on Wilhelm Road, west of Valley Road in Clearwater Township, was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Sheriff officials reported the vehicle, a 2002 Ford Explorer, was traveling west on Wilhelm Road when the driver likely lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over and struck multiple trees. Both of the individuals in the car were ejected from it by the force of the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.
