Side Bar - Upcoming trial a very big (and expensive) deal for for Antrim County

The trial for the three men accused in the plot to kidnap Gov. Whitmer is scheduled to start Aug. 23 in Antrim County’s 13th Circuit court, with jury selection slated for Aug. 21 and 22. According to Antrim County Clerk, Sheryl Guy, the jury pool - that’s the number of people who have received notice to show up for possible selection to jury duty - is 400. That will mean 200 each of those two days going through the process known as “voir dire” to determine the eligibility of a person for jury service. Because the Antrim County Courthouse cannot accommodate a 200 person jury pool, the process of jury selection will be held in the Performing Arts Auditorium at Bellaire High School. At least everyone will have comfortable seating during jury selection.
