Shay Midsummer Night Run marks 10th year

CENTRAL LAKE — The Ryan Shay Midsummer Night Run has reached a milestone.

The race, named in honor of Central Lake’s elite runner who died at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2007, is in its 10th year. As has become tradition, the race will be run on Fourth of July, starting at 7 p.m.

“We’re excited,” said race co-director Joe Shay. “We’re anticipating a nice-sized crowd because of where the Fourth of July falls in the middle of the week. They expect a lot more people up north because they’re going to take extra time off with the way the Fourth of July falls. We’re hoping we can get a good turnout.”
