Schuss to celebrate 50 years with new ski slopes, snow guns

With several new snowmaking machines already at work on the hill whenever temperatures allow, along with new runs for both downhill and cross-country enthusiasts, Schuss Mountain's 50th anniversary celebration is off to a good start. With cooperation from Mother Nature, Schuss is scheduled to open for downhill skiing this Friday, Nov. 24.
MANCELONA – With more than 50 downhill ski runs, five terrain parks, 12 lifts, over 30 kilometers of cross-country skiing, and three lodges, there's a lot to celebrate at Shanty Creek Resorts every winter. However, the resort's vice-president of sales and marketing Chris Hale says that visitors will find even more to enjoy this season as the resort kicks off its celebration of Schuss Mountain's 50th anniversary.
A big part of that celebration will begin out on the mountain itself, with several new snowmaking machines added to Schuss' already impressive arsenal of snow guns, most of which were purchased just a few years ago when the resort's entire snowmaking operation was completely replaced and revamped, according to Hale.
