Road commission awards bid for solution to closed County Road 571

COLDSPRINGS TWP. — Officials took the next step to re-opening a quarter-mile section of County Road 571, one of the busiest roads in Kalkaska County, by late fall.

The Kalkaska County Road Commission recently announced that Huron Engineering of Alpena was the winning bidder for engineering and construction services to design a plan to solve the issue of water from adjacent ponds swamping a low point in the roadway between Twin Lake Road and Starvation Lake Road, about a mile south of the border with Antrim County.

The deadline for bids was Feb. 3, with KCRC officials opening and reviewing the bids on Feb. 10.

“They’ve already accepted (the contract),” said John Rogers, KCRC manager.
