Riding out the storm: Hurricane damage minimal for most, but not all

BELLAIRE – Antrim County breathed a collective sigh of relief Monday morning as word trickled in, most of it through social media, that family, friends and property in Florida had survived Hurricane Irma in good shape. 

But it was quite a ride. 

In Bellaire, Brooke Bates was frantic when her son Jonah, 21, told her that he and his best friend Garrett Cartmell, along with Garrett's grandparents, would not be evacuating the Cape Coral home they had been visiting.
