Quick reaction, experience helps caregiver save a resident’s life

Eunice Kimbler, a direct support professional with Summertree Residential for the past 10 years, took her client, John Burkitt, out for dinner at a church function on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Kimbler drove down the road toward their destination with the radio on and the two listened to music – something Kimbler said John always enjoys when they are riding in the car.
“I heard an unusual sound and asked John if he was alright,” Kimbler said. “He didn’t answer me so I turned on the dome light and when I looked in the rearview mirror, I could see he was choking and turning blue.”
