Much like in prior years, shoppers are expected to pack the Kalkaska United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the annual Academea Club of Kalkaska’s 2019 Silent Auction.

KALKASKA – The Academea Club of Kalkaska invites all to its 2019 Silent Auction, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church. Bidding begins at 9 a.m. and closes at 10:30 a.m. sharp. Light refreshments will be served.

Get a jump start on holiday shopping with items such as homemade/handmade goods, gift certificates, baked goods, new and nearly new items, themed gift baskets, and an array of unique goods donated by local businesses.

Academea Club Treasurer Sharon Stockford encourages everyone – young or older – in the community to stop by the popular auction.

“This is a family friendly event; kids can get a gift for a teacher, husbands for their daughters, and grandparents for a grandchild. … There are lots of creative and delicious items. Support our service club and get great gifts,” Stockford said.

The annual fall auction is the largest fundraiser for Kalkaska’s Academea Club. The organization uses every dollar of the money raised from the event to fund good works such as scholarships for graduating seniors, along with cash donations to local projects and causes.

The Academea Club was first organized in 1933 and was instrumental in bringing a library to Kalkaska County. While the nonprofit group still supports the library and its programming, its main goal now is raising money with the hopes of improving lives and projects in the local area.

Over the last 12 months Academea Club has donated funds raised at the 2018 silent auction to numerous organizations – particularly those that benefit local schools.
