Paddle Antrim’s Jerdee to receive Verlen Kruger Award
ELK RAPIDS — Paddle Antrim Executive Director Deana Jerdee has been selected to receive the 2021 Verlen Kruger Award by the Quiet Water Society.
The award is given annually to a person who has supported and promoted paddle sports along with water conservation, education, or history in Michigan. Verlen Kruger was a world class Michigan canoeist, who was the first to receive a Quiet Water Society award in 2003. Since then, the Verlen Kruger Award has been presented annually at the Quiet Water/Quiet Adventures Symposium. This year’s symposium will be held virtually over five days on Feb. 16, 18, 23, 25 and 27. Jerdee will be recognized on the final day and she will get her name engraved on a brick for placement in the walkway around the Kruger statue in Portland, near Lansing.
“I was surprised and humbled by getting it,” said Jerdee. “I was so surprised when I got the announcement from the president of the Quiet Water Society. It’s a big honor.”
