No change in results of Central Lake treasurer race after recount
BELLAIRE – Central Lake Township incumbent treasurer Larry Germain retained his position over challenger Cheryl Shooks after a recount conducted last week showed no change in the number of votes cast for the seat during Michigan's primary election on Aug. 7.
The thorough and meticulous recount conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the Antrim County administration building once again showed a total of 228 votes cast for Germain over Shooks' 220 votes.
The recount, which took more than two hours, was conducted by Antrim County Clerk's Office employees Connie Wing and Amy Gillman under the scrutiny of Antrim County Election Canvassers Linda Travis, of Elk Rapids; Peggy Bishop, of Kewadin; and Canvassers chair Jan Olach, of Ellsworth; as well as Antrim County Clerk Sheryl Guy.
Both Germain and Shooks were also present for the recount.
For the second time since the election, the seal was broken on the container holding all of the 663 votes cast in Central Lake Township during the election. The seal was initially broken in mid-August to recount all of the ballots cast in the township when a discrepancy arose over the number of ballots counted and the number of ballots listed in the township poll book. It was discovered during that recount, conducted by the Board of Canvasssers, that a ballot had been mismarked.
