New coach for Blazer basketball team
The Kalkaska varsity basketball team is gearing up for this year’s season with the first home game slated for December 3 against Tawas. Kalkaska’s new coach Jeremy Guggemos will replace Matt Olds, who resigned last year after three seasons coaching the Blazers. “The most significant change I’ve implemented is the ‘We over Me’ concept,’” said coach Guggemos. “This applies to everyone from third-grade players to varsity coaches. I’ve brought in outside coaches to assist with player development, conditioning, scouting, and energy.”
Some of the coaches include Alex Swoverland for pre-season workouts; Dr. Aaron Swoverland for pre-season workouts and stretching and conditioning; Ephraim Costilow for post-player development; and varsity assistant Eric Wilde for his extensive basketball knowledge as a high school player, college player, and coach.
