Mystery solved: Community in Action fundraiser is a solid success
BELLAIRE – There was a mysterious murder at Shanty Creek Resorts last Friday night. However, authorities weren’t notified because no one was actually “murdered.”
In fact, the evening was a lot of fun for both suspects and investigators, and proceeds from the successful event held by Bellaire's Community in Action school booster group will go a long ways towards purchasing electronic scoreboards for the fields at Craven Park's used by the high school's baseball and softball teams.
"We had our first murder mystery fundraiser last year," said CIA president Margie Thomas Boyd. "We considered it a huge success, much more than we could have hoped for from an event that was put together on a whim in less than a month."
As a result, the parent/student support group was able to fund two $250 scholarships, instead of just one as the group had originally hoped to support.
With an ambitious goal set earlier this year of raising $20,000 for electronic scoreboards at Craven Park's ball fields, which are used by the high school's softball and baseball teams, the group decided to move the event – its largest fundraiser, to Shanty Creek – which allowed the group to increase ticket sales, and add a dinner and silent auction.
