Mirror image: Local identical twins to celebrate 90th birthday

Marjory Elkins, of Mancelona, and Phyllis Birchfield of Kalkaska (or is it Phyllis and Marjory?) offer a familiar laugh last week while sharing memories of growing up as identical twins.
KALKASKA – “We got our palms read once,” said Marjory Louise Elkins of herself and her identical twin, Phyllis Jeane Birchfield. “The lady read Phyllis’ and then she read mine and said, ‘I might as well only have read one!’ Because she said they were exactly the same.”
The local nonagenarian twins are set to celebrate their good fortunes together by hosting a 90th birthday party Saturday, Oct. 7 from 3-6 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Kalkaska. The event is open to the public.
“It isn’t everyday that twins live to be 90, and I want to enjoy it with my friends!” stated Phyllis.
