ELLSWORTH — This year Ellsworth will celebrate its 40th annual Pig Roast on Saturday, June 19. To honor this milestone the festival will highlight the festivals of the past 39 years while spotlighting the small village’s new designation as the trailhead of the new chain of lakes water trail. One of the special events added this year is the raffle of a memorial quilt, a pigstorical event indeed!

Each year the Ellsworth High School Graphics Class is asked to create a logo for the festival. The chosen logo is put on t-shirts and sold before and during the festival. The quilt has been fashioned from these t-shirts by Candy Kehoe and all necessary materials were donated by Cousins Quilt Shops of Bellaire and Charlevoix.

“The Pig Roast brings back childhood memories for me,” said Carmen Hartwig, owner of Cousins Quilt Shops. “We were active in 4-H and the Farmers Bureau and that was all based in Ellsworth. I have been attending the Pig Roast since it’s inception, I think. It’s nice to see the event still carrying on and this was something we could do to support that.”
