Members of Bellaire relay squad pave the way for area girls track
REGION — In a lot of ways track and field is thought of as an individual sport.
Obviously, though there are some team elements — team scores and relays.
This season there was one relay in particular that stood out among girls track teams — Bellaire’s 4x800 squad. Three of those runners were part of the 3,200 team that reached the state finals in 2017. This time Kennan Dawson, Teegan Dawson and Halle Ciganick added Keagan Fischer to the mix, to go with a year of experience and significantly improved their time and place against the state’s best.
Prior to that the squad won regional and Ski Valley Conference championships to showcase what the quartet could do at an elite level.
The Eagles fell short of the podium at the state finals, but still proved what four talented runners with a common goal can accomplish. The efforts and performance of that group make them collectively this year’s choice as the Review Girls Track Athletes of the Year.
