Looking Back - Forest Home Township’s early school days
Antrim County has 15 townships within the Elk River/Chain of Lakes Watershed and Forest Home Township is strategically located near the middle of them. Shaped like an interior peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, it boasts 26.6 miles of highly prized shoreline on Torch Lake and other lakes and rivers in the Chain.
The east part of the township includes Grass River (a “wild river” about two and three-quarters miles long with few traces of the works of man along its length), Intermediate River, Intermediate Lake and Lake Bellaire (originally called Grass Lake); the southern part includes Clam Lake and Clam River. Beautiful Torch Lake dominates the western half of the township.
