KALKASKA – The Kalkaska Department of Public Safety could soon be without its most veteran officer and its second in command.

That’s because Lt. Glenn Artress, who first joined the then Kalkaska Village Police Department (KDPS) in 1991 as a part-time officer, recently notified village officials of his intent to retire at the end of the year.

Scott Yost, village manager and KDPS director, said he has informed members of the Kalkaska Village Council that Artress, the department’s most senior certified law enforcement officer, had filed his retirement paperwork with the state MERS system.

“It initiates the process and sets a date to begin disbursement of retirement funds to the retiree,” Yost said of the filing.

However, no public announcement has yet been made of Artress’ pending retirement.

“I left it to Glenn to notify his friends and peers,” Yost added. “That is a personal and special matter.”
