KALKASKA – Law enforcement officials from local, county and state agencies, as well as other supporters, gathered Tuesday, May 16 at the Kalkaska County Governmental Center for the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony to remember those officers who lost their lives in 2016 while serving their communities.
The ceremony was part of a local effort to mark National Police Week, which runs from May 14-20.
“This is the time and place to honor our fallen officers,” said Kalkaska County Sheriff Patrick Whiteford. “Not so much how their service ended, but how they served and how they lived.
“With commitment, they defended our communities, our schools and our businesses. They kept us safe in our homes and our roads,” he added.
