Lavona J. “Bonnie” Johnson

Lavona J. “Bonnie” Johnson, 85, of Central Lake, passed away on June 15, 2022 at her home.

Bonnie was born on Feb. 1, 1937, in Central Lake, the daughter of William and Martha (Clark) Barrow.

Bonnie was one of the first women to become a tool and die maker for General Motors in Detroit. Following a long career at GM, she retired in 1992 and moved back up to Central Lake permanently. 

She was a longtime member of the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church, was gifted in creating works of art with floss and crocheting needles and was known as very detail oriented.

Surviving are 9 children, Debra Eisenmann of Charlevoix, Tina Sundelius of Ellsworth, Kimberly Rollins of Gaylord, Joseph (Bessie) Johnson of Centerline, MI, William (Vicki) Johnson of Utica, MI, Michael (Cheri) Johnson of Madison Heights, MI, Robert (Martha) Johnson of Sterling Heights, MI, James Johnson of Mt. Clemens, MI, Edmund (Lisa) Johnson of Convoy, OH, 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way, a brother Charles Barrow of OK, 2 sisters, Martha Miles of West Olive, MI, and Elsie Nemecheck of East Jordan.

Preceding her in death were her husband Joseph Johnson, granddaughter Sadie Rollins, 2 brothers, William and Raymond Barrow and her parents.

Funeral services took place on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Tharp officiating. Burial followed in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township.
