Lancers pick up key non-league victory over Ironmen
MANCELONA — The majority of Ellsworth’s greatest challenges the last few years have come in non-conference games.
On Monday the Lancers rose to the occasion and posted a 60-52 non-league boys basketball win over Mancelona — a squad that had won its first two Ski Valley Conference games by an average of 35 points.
“It means we can beat a good team,” Ellsworth coach Jarod Steenwyk said, when asked what the win meant for his team. “Mancelona is a solid team, brings a lot of pressure. I was looking at it, coming off break, and thinking, ‘oh, man, that’s not a good way to start,’ but it’s good to start off with a win. It’s a tough one coming off break. It’s a big one on our calendar.”
