ELK RAPIDS — The Lady Elks soccer season began in full stride as the team split a pair of home games to open the season, winning 1-0 over conference rival Charlevoix on Monday and falling to Gaylord 1-0 on Friday in a non-conference matchup.

Late in the first half, freshman Annabelle Parrish scored the first Elk Rapids goal of the season, knocking in a ball deflected off a Rayders’ defender after Kendall Brown sent in a direct kick from 35 yards out. That was the lone score of the game, which was played in unusual sunny,
mid-50s weather. The Elks played without the services of seniors Olivia Travis and Amanda Trierweiler, both injured in the season opener on Friday.
