Lady Elks rally days later for win

ELK RAPIDS — With a time out that lasted for two days, the Lady Elks came back from a sluggish start to defeat Lake Michigan Conference rival Boyne City 33-28 at home.

The game had been originally scheduled for Friday, along with the Elk Rapids varsity boys game, but a widespread flu in the Boyne City area had closed the schools for several days. Both schools agreed to reschedule the game for Saturday night in Elk Rapids, but an area transformer blew during the game, halting play with 7:13 left in the second quarter with Boyne ahead 10-3 over the Elks. The gym was left with partial lighting, and both scoreboards were out, along with parts of the Elk Rapids area. After some deliberations, it was decided to pick up the game on Monday night, exactly from the point power was lost.
