Lady Elks get fifth straight win, hand Devils first loss

EAST JORDAN — Shaking off some holiday break rust, the Lady Elks girls basketball team clamped down defensively on East Jordan in the second half of the Lake Michigan Conference game last Friday for a 47-34 win.
East Jordan came into the game undefeated at 6-0, while the Elks were winners of four straight after losing their first two games of the season. The teams played fairly even through the first half with the Elks up 11-9 after one and leading 22-19 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Elks switched to a 1-3-1 defense and a trapping press to hold the Red Devils to eight points while scoring 12 for a 34-27 lead after three quarters of play. Drew Antcliff drained a three to start the final quarter, giving the Elks a double-digit lead from which the Red Devils could not come back.
