KALKASKA — The Aug. 4 primary election on Tuesday might have provided at least a few surprises, as at least one incumbent seeking to retain her seat on the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners was upset and voters defeated a millage renewal that funds the Kaliseum Recreation Complex.

While several incumbents running for county office were unopposed, the primary election was heated for those seats that were contested.

In the race for District No. 7, challenger Katina Banko (198 votes) reportedly upset incumbent Commissioner Patty Cox (160), who has served as the board’s vice chair, in the Republican primary to represent the Village of Kalkaska, according to unofficial results posted by the Kalkaska County Clerk’s office.
