BOYNE CITY — Kalkaska’s boys 800-meter relay team broke a 14-year-old school record at the Lake Michigan Conference track and field championships on Wednesday, May 23.

The Blazers’ quartet of Cole McKenzie, Kyle McDowell, Keagan Burley and Micah Miller ran a first place time of 1:32.57 to break the school standard set in 2004 by the group of Kohn Fisher, Drew Gillespie, Pete Gillespie and Scott Wood.

The win in that event was one of seven the Blazers recorded on the way to finishing in third place. Harbor Springs was the boys champion with 157 points, followed by Boyne City (106) and Kalkaska (101). Elk Rapids ended up scoring 62 points to take sixth.
