KAIR hoping to dish up community meals

KALKASKA — Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources (KAIR) Director Cathy Somes soon gets to see one of her ideas come to reality.

A new community meal site dubbed “Ladles of Love” is expected to open in May at 107 West 3rd Street, Kalkaska. Open to anyone in need of a meal, Ladles of Love will serve hot food twice per week, no questions asked.

The community meals will help address a shortage of food access in the county. KAIR’s food pantry is already a popular resource in Kalkaska and has become even more in demand due to the effects of the global pandemic.
