Ironmen, Ramblers go down to the wire in wrestling match

MANCELONA — Steel sharpened steel at Monday’s night’s wrestling tri-match at Mancelona Middle School.

Two quality wrestling teams stood toe to toe with one another in the final matchup of the three that were held between Mancelona, Traverse City St. Francis and Boyne City, and waged a battle that went down to the final weight class before Boyne City was awarded a 39-38 win over Mancelona that took several moments to decide as the official had to go down the list of criteria to break a 38-38 tie. The Ramblers took the match on criteria of a 16-12 advantage in first-points scored.

“I think (Boyne City) is pretty good as a whole. I think they’re pretty strong,” said Mancelona wrestling coach Joe Johnston. “I’d like to go against more teams that strong so we can get stronger. My old wrestling coach used to say steel sharpens steel. You can’t get better if you don’t wrestle someone better.”
