Ironmen enact revenge in two wins
MANCELONA — The Mancelona boys basketball team went on a revenge tour last week and was able to deliver paybacks from earlier losses this year in wins over Gaylord St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston.
St. Mary and Joburg had defeated the Ironmen in back-to-back games, escaping with one-point victories in early December. Mancelona took down St. Mary 57-52 on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the second overtime game the two teams have played, then slipped past Joburg 67-64 on Thursday.
Mancelona held off a late Joburg charge in Thursday’s contest, after the Cardinals had tied the game early in the fourth. Mancelona had been in the lead for the entire way, though the spread was mostly within five to six points. The Ironmen were ahead 17-14 after the first period and 38-32 at the half.
