JOHANNESBURG — The Mancelona boys track and field team had a superlative performance at the Ski Valley Conference Championships on Tuesday, May 25, but it just wasn’t enough as host Johannesburg-Lewiston took the league crown by six points.

The Ironmen won eight events, including four first-place finishes from Tyler McClure and three by Jayden Alfred, which helped accumulate 187 points at the meet. The Cardinals were crowned team champions after scoring 193.

McClure was unstoppable in winning all four events he ran. He took first in the 400 in a time of 52.86, was first in the 800 in 2:15.41, won the 1,600 in 5:03.59 and also was first in the 3,200 in 10:34.1.

Alfred also had a big day, taking first in the 100 (11.76), 200 (23.99) and long jump (20-5), while finishing second in the high jump (6-1) to Forest Area’s Phoenix Mulholland (6-3).
