Ironmen beat Bellaire to claim first Ski Valley boys basketball crown

MANCELONA — The blank spot that sits under conference titles on the boys basketball banner at Mancelona High School won’t look so empty anymore.

That’s because the Ironmen did something no other boys basketball squad has done in school history, capturing a league championship with a 62-15 victory over Bellaire on Wednesday, March 10.

“It feels great,” said Mancelona coach Brian Sheridan. “We’ve been working toward it for the last few years and we finally got over the hump this year.”

Jayden Alfred scored 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had eight steals to lead the way for the Ironmen, who improved to 7-1 in conference games and 9-3 overall. Ben Palmer chipped in nine points and Justin Ackler had eight points.
