Ironman win team districts, advance individuals to regional

MANCELONA — The Ironmen wrestlers won their fourth straight Division 4 team district title last week, but not in a way they are used to.
The Covid-shortened wrestling season actually took place over a three-week span this year, with many teams having a larger number of voids and forfeits. The team districts were held in Mancelona on Wednesday and Thursday, March 16-17, but the Ironmen were the only squad in the gym after St. Francis had to forfeit.
“We had the entire squad on hand for the team districts, but there was no meet after Traverse City St. Francis forfeited,” said Ironman wrestling coach Joe Johnston. “It was not how we wanted to win team districts, but we will take it.”
