Housing crisis and jobs
Antrim County and the surrounding areas are a wonderful place to live. Beautiful country, nice people and hardly any crime. Sounds like paradise right? Well, yes, so long as you’ve got the cash for it. There is a housing issue in our area and its causing issues with potential new neighbors moving in. This is also having a secondary effect, lack of new talent to the area. We have a prime example of this that was reported on 9&10 News and even in the Detroit Free Press. On April 22, 2022, Short’s Brewery announced a deal to buy the Bellaire Inn to serve as housing for employees. In an article published by the Detroit Free Press, the CEO of Short’s Brewery, Scott Newman, stated in the press release: “We’ve missed out on (non-local) candidates because they can’t find a place to live, and we’ve had employees move out of state because of the lack of affordable, workforce housing. We’re working to get some housing projects shovel ready, but that doesn’t help us this season.”
