Herrst walks the runway in NYC
CENTRAL LAKE — Not many teenagers can say they walked the runway modeling designer clothing during the internationally known Fashion Week in New York City.
But 17-year-old Desiree Herrst can. And that event was just one accomplishment in a list of many for the Central Lake High School student, who faces a very bright future.
A former Miss Michigan Junior Sweetheart, and the America National Teenager Scholarship Organization's current 2020/2021 Junior National Sweetheart, Herrst was one of eight Michigan youngsters recognized in 2018 as a "Distinguished Finalist" for the national Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her volunteer efforts in creating hand-crocheted wigs for young cancer patients, work which also earned her a Governor's Service award from then-Gov. Rick Snyder as a Youth Volunteer of the Year.
