Growing need

KALKASKA COUNTY--Local fire departments and their firefighters are crucial to the overall safety of the community. However, many local emergency departments are experiencing a very real need for more local residents to fill their ranks. 

In Kalkaska County, Fire Chiefs from Boardman, Bear Lake, Clearwater and Coldsprings-Excelsior Township stations especially emphasized the growing need for more local firefighters and medical first responders to join their departments. 

 “I would like to thank Boardman Township Fire Department Chief James Killingsworth and Captain Andrew Killingsworth for recently sounding the alarm regarding the need for more firefighters. Low staffing levels affect the safety of everyone living in or visiting Kalkaska County,” said Clearwater Township Fire Department Chief Greg Bradley.
