Gerald Edward Fish

Gerald Edward Fish, 81, passed away at his home in Alden on July 31, 2022, surrounded by his family. 

Gerald was born April 15, 1941, in Rochester, MI. 

He is the son of Helen (Luce) and Clemens Fish. 

Gerald married Bonnie (Mattingly) on July 22, 1967. He spent 55 years married to the love of his life, raising four children along the way. 

Gerald graduated high school from Comstock Park, after graduation he was drafted into the Army. During his time with the army, he was a part of the 151st airborne serving as a paratrooper during the Vietnam war. After the war, Gerald pursued a certificate program in electrical engineering. This would lead him into an amazing thirty-year career in the aerospace industry. He was able to work on the Lunar Excursion module, which was the spacecraft that carries astronauts from the command module to the surface of the moon and back, while later working on the Horizon module used in 747s. In Gerald’s limited free time he had a passion for the boy scouts. Achieving the rank of eagle scout, he passed this same passion onto his son, Jeff, who also holds the rank of eagle scout. He spent eight years as the scoutmaster of troop 354 touching many lives along the way and instilling many of his own amazing values into his scouts. Gerald was also scoutmaster of troop 354 while they he had the honor of serving on Mackinaw Island as the Governor’s Honor Guard. 

He was a man of many skills who could do anything from playing the handbells to fix just about any electronic. Gerald always had a deep faith and a strong moral compass; he was an extremely honest man that always did what was right without hesitation. Above all, he was a family man, who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Gerald will be missed by all and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie Fish; daughters Jennifer (Paul) Latham, Bethany (Ken) Adamski, and Barbra (Scott) Burgess; son Jeff (Gail) Fish; sister JoAnne Galloway; brother Roger Fish; 17 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his father Clemens Fish; mother Helen Fish; and sister Elaine Smith. T

The memorial service will be held at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at 11 a.m., the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider a donation to your local hospice organization for their compassionate care.
