Fungi lovers hoping for good morel season

REGION — For many, May in northern Michigan means morels, the delicious, strange looking fungus that attracts more followers every year.

Although the actual fruiting period for morels can range from mid-April until mid-June, the weeks before and after Mother's Day,  are considered "prime time" in most areas of the north, weather allowing, for a search through the forest for a panful of the delectable wild mushrooms.

With an early spring, and heavy rains in recent days, experienced morel hunters are hoping for a good season this year.
