Exposure risk high

BELLAIRE — The highest risk of being exposed to the coronavirus would be to those who were in four Bellaire stores at the same time last week and may have come into direct contact with an infected person, a Health Dept. spokesperson said Monday.

Laurel Johnson, public information officer for the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, went on to say that "Although there is risk to anyone whenever they are in a public space, the highest risk of infection occurs when someone is in close contact with an infectious person for a significant amount of time."

On Friday, May 15, the Health Department announced that there had been a possible community spread of the disease after an infectious person visited the Family Fare grocery store, Dollar General, Subway, and BP gas station, all in Bellaire, on Wednesday, May 13, before taking a test for the presence of the disease, which later proved positive.
