Elks hoist another boys soccer district trophy

KALKASKA — A 6-0 win over Boyne City on Saturday in the boys soccer district championship game played in Kalkaska gave Elk Rapids a second straight Division 3 district title, and avenged a regular season loss to the Ramblers.
The Elks’ focus now shifts to regional play, where the Elks last won back-to back titles in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Boyne City earned a trip to the championship contest defeating Harbor Springs 2-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in a weather-shortened semifinal game. Lightening and heavy rain halted the game at halftime, and the delay turned into a win for Boyne City and a tough end to the season for Harbor. A game is considered in the books after several delays and a two-goal lead at halftime.
