Elk Rapids wins big over Kingsley

ELK RAPIDS — In just their third game of the season the Elk Rapids boys basketball team looked to be in midseason from as they dismantled the visiting Kingsley Stags 62-29 on Friday.
Kingsley won the jump and scored taking a two point lead. Josh Lavely tied the game with a putback, Spencer Ball followed connecting on a pair of free throws, putting the Elks up by two. They would not look back, outscoring the Stags 18-9 over the rest of the opening period for a 22-11 lead. In the second period the Elks outrebounded Kingsley 13-3, including eight defensive boards, limiting second shots and holding the Stags to one point while scoring 14 for a 36-12 halftime lead. The Elks’ bench saw plenty of action in the second half, the third period ending with a 44-19 Elk Rapids advantage. Lavely led the team with 12 points and 16 rebounds, Ball scored eight with seven rebounds, Ryan McGuire pulled down seven boards. The Elks finished with a 44-17 rebounding advantage over Kingsley for the game.
“We’re still working on trying to get our conditioning back,” said Elk varsity coach Kevin Ball, “This was a very physical game, but we battled hard and competed well.”
